Wound strings are made from nickel plated steel wire wrapped around tin plated hex shaped steel core wire. Produces well balanced all around good sound. Plain strings are made of specially tempered tin plated high carbon steel. This set has a wound 3rd (or G string) sometimes referred to as a jazz set. Gauges .013, .017, .026, .034, .046, .056
